Lille secured a comfortable victory over Montpellier at Stade Louis II on Saturday afternoon, with goals from Jonathan David and Romain Bentaleb securing a clean sheet for the hosts.

David opened the scoring in the 41st minute, slotting home from close range after a good cross from Florian Thauvin. The forward then added to Lille's lead just before halftime, curling a shot past Montpellier goalkeeper Benjamin Mendy.

Bentaleb also had a hand in the final result, providing the assist for David's goal. The Algerian midfielder was booked early on but proved his worth later on as he played a key role in both goals.

Montpellier, meanwhile, were unable to find any way through Lille's defence and were left to rue their missed opportunities. Their only real chance of a goal came in the second half when Abdennour El Khadraoui headed narrowly wide from close range.

The win sees Lille move up to third place in the league table, while Montpellier remain in tenth. Both teams will be hoping for better results in their next matches, which include games against fellow mid-table sides Nice and Monaco.
