Clermont have secured their survival in Ligue 1 after defeating Strasbourg at Stade de la Meinau on Saturday.

The French side had been relegated from the top-flight last season and were facing the prospect of being relegated again this term if they failed to beat Strasbourg.

But Clermont fought back from behind to secure a 2-1 win and maintain their hopes of staying up for another season.

Strasbourg had taken the lead through Benjamin Mendy's goal just before half-time but Clermont came out stronger in the second half and took control of the game.

They were rewarded with a well-deserved victory as substitute Yann Kermoli scored in the 79th minute to level the scoreline and go ahead.

And Kermoli's strike was enough to earn his side a vital three points and keep them in the fight for survival in Ligue 1.

It is a huge boost for the team as they look to bounce back from a poor start to the campaign and continue their climb up the table.

The win also means that Strasbourg will be playing in Ligue 2 next season, while Clermont will stay in Ligue 1 and hope to build on their strong performance against the struggling Strasbourg side.
